SEMINAR ON PEACE AND MEDIA

One day seminar was conducted on PEACE AND MEDIA for the teachers of Panisagar Holy Cross School on the 28, March 2009 by Fr. John PKC, CSC and Fr. Binoy CSC.

The seminar was part of Peace program for the school student. The seminar is to prepare the teachers to be more effective as peace educator and help to realise the power of media and make use of the media for the promotion of peace in the school, society and the world at large.

There were ten teachers for the seminar. They had taken part actively in the seminar and benefited alot especially in the field of Media. We express our sincere thanks and gratitude to to the principal Fr. Paul CR, CSC for his cooperation, support and hospitality.

This Week in History

This segment is in observance of the year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Servant of God Father Patrick Peyton, CSC.
March 25, 1990: Father Peyton writes, "My Magnificat". Three lessons he learned from his illness with tuberculosis: 1) Total dependence on my neighbor. We are one family, all one in Christ. 2

) The precious gift of God's Mother, given to us with His dying breath on the cross. I learned the extraordinary power of her intercessory prayer, and 3) I quote that lesson in Our Lord's words, "Without me you can do nothing."

Peace Club at Gondacherra

A new Peace Club is formed at St. Arnold School, Gondacherra, Tripura by the ASHA Holy Cross.

There are 36 students who volunteered to be member of this peace Club. So far ASHA established club is form in more than 25 schools and colleges across the state of Tripura to impart peace education and promote peace in the state. Fr. Abraham, Fr. John PKC, Mr. Osam Jamatia and Saimal along with the principal of the school Fr. Arun and the teacher incharge were present during the opening ceremony.

Diocesan tribunal constituted by Arch Bishop Dominic Jala, SDB

Rev. Fr. Hugh Clearly, CSC, the superior general of the congregation of HolyCross signed the documents in the presence of His grace Arch Bishop Dominic Jala, SDB, at the constitution ceremony of the diocesan tribunal for the cause of the cannocization of Blessed Fr. Moreau. Most Rev. Bishop Lumen Monteiro, CSC, Bishop of Agartala and Most Rev. Bishop Stephen Rotluanga, CSC, Bishop of Aizawl along with Bro. John Britto, CSC, the vicariate superior of the brothers of Holy Cross, India and other holy cross members were also present at this historic events of the congregation at Brookdene, Shillong.

Another mile stone in the ministry of Holy Cross -NE

Rev. Fr. Hugh Cleary, CSC, the superior General of the congregation of Holy Cross laid the foundation stone at Sumer - Shillong, on the feb 23, 2009, for the new formation house of the northeast province of the fathers of Holy Cross.

Sumer situated one kilometer inside from the national highway, around 35 kilometers from Shillong town. It is a beautiful location with wonderful landscape which has source of water for cultivation as well.

Blessing and Inauguration of Tripura’s Biggest Church
The Annual Parish sabha of Kathalcherra had a solemn ending with the blessing and inauguration of the newly christened Good Shepherd Church. In the presence of a large number of faithful, Priests and Religious, the Pastor of the Diocese Most Rev. Lumen Monteiro, CSC, blessed the newly constructed Church. Earlier Rev. Fr. Roy Thalackan, CSC, the Provincial Superior of Holy Cross Fathers cut the ribbon and inaugurated the magnificent edifice. The Church construction was begun by Fr. Mathew Ullattil, CSC and completed by Fr. Lourthuswamy, CSC. On this occasion 60 people received the Sacrament of Confirmation and 20 children received First Holy Communion. The blessing and Eucharist were followed by a variety entertainment programme and agape.

WHO IS THE FOUNDER OF HOLY CROSS CONGREGATION

Blessed Fr. Basil Anthony Moreaus

Born on February 11, 1799 in Laigné-en-Belin, a small village near Le Mans, France, Fr. Moreau grew up in the midst of the turmoil of the French Revolution. As his parents were devout Catholics involved in the underground Church, the aspect of the Revolution which most affected him was the suppression of the Church.
The ninth of 14 children, Basil was accustomed to a spare life; yet, by the generosity of his pastor who tutored him, he was able to achieve a good primary education. Feeling himself called to the priesthood, Basil entered the diocesan seminary in 1814, when the hostilities of the Revolution toward the Church had subsided. The seminary was run by the Sulpician Order and schooled him in the French school of spirituality which remains an inspiration in his preaching and writings all his life. At age 22 in 1821, Basil Moreau was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Le Mans, France at the Old Visitation Convent Chapel of the Sacred Heart, while the Cathedral of St. Julien in Le Mans was under restoration.

1857 Received papal approval of the constitutions for the Association, which became the Congregation of Holy Cross.
1866 Resigned as superior general, but continued an active preaching and retreat ministry.
1872 Celebrated his Golden Jubilee.
1873 Died on January 20 at age 73.
1955 The cause for his beatification was introduced in Rome.
2003 Proclaimed Venerable.
2007 Beatified in Le Mans

HEARTY WELCOME TO YOU

The Holy Cross Media Ministry of North East India is well pleased to welcome Fr. James Phalan, Fr. Steve Gibsona and David Gibson in the north of province of the fathers of Holy Cross.

Fr. Steve Gibson came to preach the retreat for the Fathers of Holy Cross, Northeast provinice. The retreat was really nice and wonderful as all the particpants expressed. They really enjoyed the retreat with lots of humors and deep reflections. It was lifely and thought provoking.

Now, they are visiting the different missions centers in Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya.

In the name of the Province, once again we welcome them in our mission stations.

Good Christians Must Also Be Good Citizens: Pope
VATICAN CITY, NOV. 01, 2007,

Good Christians must also be good citizens, and this implies even the unpleasant task of paying taxes, says Pope Benedict XVI.
The Pope said this on Wednesday, Oct. 31, to the more than 30,000 rain-soaked participants at the general audience in St. Peter's Square. The Pontiff, continuing his series of meditations on the Fathers of the Church, spoke of St. Maximus, the bishop of Turin.
Maximus became bishop in 398, and according to the Holy Father, "contributed decisively to the spread and consolidation of Christianity in northern Italy."
Although there is little biographical information on the saint, Benedict XVI spoke of the contribution of Bishop Maximus based on 90 written sermons.
Benedict XVI acknowledged that much has changed since the time of Maximus, but "independent of changed conditions, the duties of the believer toward his city and homeland remain valid. The intimate relationship between the 'honest citizen' and the 'good Christian' continues to stand."
Summarizing the address in English, the Pope said: "Christian believers are called upon to carry out faithfully their duties as citizens, working to imbue temporal society with the spirit of the Gospel, and striving to achieve a vital synthesis between their duties as citizens of the earthly city and their commitment to work for the coming of God's kingdom of holiness, justice and peace."

Peace Rally

Peace is the need of the hour. The state of Tripura has been torn apart by violence for the last three decades. The impact of this unsecure and violence has resulted in the slow progress and developement of the state. One time, the state of tripura was one of the most backward states in India and in the northeast.

Therefore we need peace in change the status of Tripura and move forwared to developemt. Violence due to Militancy is only aspect, we need to grow in different aspects of our lives in order to make a leap in development.. The end of militancy does not mean that we have peace in our state...

So, we still need to promote and propagate peace.... without peace we cannot progress...

UNIFORM ACCOUNTING SYSTEM FOR NORTHEAST

The second Session on Quicken 2002 training was successfully conducted for the confrerers of Holy Cross in Meghalaya region on October 8, 2009. The training was organised for the region of Meghalaya. Thanks to Fr. Clement Amo who accomodated the training programe at Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School, Jongksha. There were 12 participants including the fathers, brother, sisters and office staff.

The training session was mixture of inputs and practical. The computer lab of the school was made available for this. The resource person Fr. John PKC, csc, Director of Holy Cross Media Ministry, Northeast India expressed gratitude to the confrerers who took seriously about this project and made it by participating in it.

Superior General appeal

In a letter dated March 22, publicly released this week, the superior general of the Congregation of Holy Cross, the founding order of the university, wrote to Obama with a pro-life appeal.
Father Hugh Cleary told the president, "I have been deluged with angry e-mails regarding Notre Dame's decision to invite you to campus for the honors you are to receive."
He noted his inability to influence these decisions, given the legal alienation of the congregation from the university, and the primary role of the boards of fellows and trustees.
However, in his role as superior of the school's president, the priest asked the president "to rethink, through prayerful wrestling with your own conscience, your stated positions on the vital 'life issues' of our day, particularly in regard to abortion, embryonic forms of stem cell research and your position on the Freedom of Choice Act before Congress."
"It is clear," he noted, "that your positions on some of the fundamental 'life issues' of our nation can neither be supported by the mission and ministry of the Congregation of Holy Cross, the University of Notre Dame nor the faithful Catholic community."
Father Cleary stated: "Mr. President, may I be so audacious as to suggest that you have made a mistake in your position supporting abortion rights as the law of the land.
"May I suggest, with all humility for I am far from perfect, that you give your conscience a fresh opportunity to be formed anew in a holy awe and reverence before human life in every form at every stage -- from conception to natural death. For we are all the Children of God."
He appealed to Obama to take the Catholic views and principles seriously, and to "stand up for the truth of life, walk through that door and take us, as a nation, with you."

ASHA PRESS

Today, Rev. Fr. Roy Thalackan, CSC the provincial Superior of the Fathers of Holy Cross, Norteast province laid the foundation stone for the newly constructed building of ASHA PRESS, here ASHA campus in the presence of Fr. C. Abraham, Director of ASHA and Fr. John PKC, Director of Holy Cross Media Ministry with the computer students.

ASHA - Holy Cross Press, will start functioning from the month of May 2009. It will try to supply the requirements of all the Holy Cross Schools in Tripura and besides these, it will be use for publishing books and periodicals which will be beneficial to the people.

HOLY CROSS SCHOOL AGARTALA GETS A NEW BUILDING

“Moreau Block” – the extension building of Holy Cross School, Agartala, constructed through the generous contribution of Holy Cross world-wide through the Solidarity Fund and the additional contribution from the Province of Northeast was Blessed and dedicated on February 17th, 2009. His Excellency Shri. D.N. Sahaya the Governor of the State of Tripura Inaugurated the building while Very Rev. Fr. Hugh Cleary, CSC the Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross blessed the School building. The Governor appreciated much the quality education provided by Holy Cross in Agartala and in the interior villages of the State. He hoped that the plans of Holy Cross for Higher education program in Agartala will be materialized soon. Father General spoke about the philosophy of Holy Cross Education and invited the students to make use of the new facilities for their growth using all their energy for the creation of a better world of love. The students of the School performed an exhilarating cultural extravaganza during the occasion. The extension block named as “Moreau Block” consists of 20 classrooms and an Examination Hall with washrooms attached to every floor.
